Codebreaker's main goal is to break the code generated by the computer (the codemaker) by submitting a series of guesses and receiving hints from the computer. In 1-player mode you can try to break the code on as few guesses as possible, and try to maximize your points in the highscore-list. In 2-player mode, you can play against each other and try to solve your code before your friend solves his code.
To create a new game, you simply clicks New Game under the Game-menu.
(Note that you can always click cancel through the whole process to cancel the new game).

In the first dialog you need to specify the number of players. Select 1 or 2 players based on how many human players there are in this current game. Click OK.

Next, fill in player names in the dialog and click OK.

Now, select the number of round to play. Each round consists of one code to break for each player.

Last dialog make you choose the difficulty by selecting Easy, Normal or Hard. The differences of three difficulties are specified bellow:

Easy:
Number of colors to choose from: 6
Number of colors in the correct code: 4
Number of tries: 8
Normal:
Number of colors to choose from: 7
Number of colors in the correct code: 5
Number of tries: 10
Hard:
Number of colors to choose from: 8
Number of colors in the correct code: 6
Number of tries: 12
Next, click the OK button, and you are ready to start playing.
When you start playing the game you will see a board. On the board there will be a row of rectangular button. Pressing one of those will bring up a menu that displays the different colors for you to make your guess.

After you made your guess press the submit-button and the hints will appear, consisting of black and white markers.
Black markers symbolized that one of the colors is correct and in the right place.
White markers symbolized that one of the colors is correct but in the wrong place.

The code only consist of unique colors (i.e. one color cannot exist in two positions). Also notice that in 2 player mode, you will both have your own code to break. Once the first of the players breaks his code, the current round will be over, and a new set of boards will appear. The players who lost the former board will always start the following.
After each match is over, the best score of each player will be submitted to the highscore-table, and the highscore-table will also be shown. Only the best score on one round will be submitted to the highscore-table. This means that you will not have larger chance because of playing more rounds.
After you finished playing, simply use the Game-menu, and select Quit to exit the application.
